Dear dealer,
Over the past years, various QWIC e-bikes from the Premium and Premium i models have been produced alternately with hydraulic disc brakes from Shimano and NUTT brands. This decision was made at the time to maintain the availability of QWIC e-bikes despite the delivery issues caused by COVID-19 at Shimano.
Safety first
Unfortunately, our experience has shown that the NUTT disc brakes are of lower quality than the original Shimano brake sets and do not always function satisfactorily. Adjusting and bleeding the brakes can be problematic and this can lead to dangerous situations such as unexpected loss of pressure.
QWIC no longer uses NUTT brakes in the production of new e-bikes. However, there is still a large number of e-bikes with these brakes in stock that have already been produced. Given the above situation, we have decided that these should be replaced preventively.
Mounting replacement disc brake kit during assembly
With every delivery of a QWIC e-bike with NUTT disc brakes from April 2024 onwards, you will receive a box containing 2 replacement disc brake kits free of charge. QWIC dealers are required to replace the NUTT brakes with the provided Shimano brakes during the assembly of e-bikes.
Compensation fee €60,-
We understand that additional work during the assembly of a new e-bike is not ideal. Therefore, we offer a standard compensation fee of €60,-, which will be deducted from the invoice for each e-bike that requires brake replacement.

Frequently Asked Questions | FAQ
Q: I still have new QWIC bicycles in my store inventory with NUTT disc brakes. Can I also receive replacement brakes for these?
A: Yes, certainly. You can send an email to service@qwic.nl until June 1st, 2024, including:
- Frame number (starting with EF…) + Bike type
- Your customer number (correct branch)
QWIC will then ensure that you receive a replacement brake set. Unfortunately, we cannot offer a conversion fee for bicycles sold to you before QWIC’s restart.
Q: I have customers riding QWIC bicycles with NUTT disc brakes. Do I need to install replacement brakes for these as well?
A: Our experience shows that issues with adjusting and the pressure of NUTT disc brakes mainly occur during assembly or shortly after the bike is put into use. If you notice that the braking system is not functioning properly, you can order a set of replacement Shimano brakes free of charge from us until September 1st, 2024. Just send an email to service@qwic.nl including:
- Frame number (starting with EF…) + Bike type
- Your customer number (correct branch)
- A clear photo, taken from the front of the relevant bike as a whole, clearly showing the mounted NUTT brakes
QWIC will then ensure that you receive a replacement brake set. Unfortunately, we cannot offer a conversion fee for bicycles sold to you before QWIC’s restart.
Q: I am experiencing issues with mounting the replacement Shimano brake caliper.
A: It may occur that the replacement rear brake caliper interferes with the frame after mounting, making it difficult to adjust. In this case, we recommend the following:
- Ensure that you mount the Shimano rear brake on the provided Shimano brake adapter. The shapes of the Shimano and NUTT brake adapters are not the same.
- If necessary, you can use 1mm spacer rings between the rear brake caliper and the brake adapter to create enough space for the slightly thicker Shimano brake caliper.
